"Sucks"

August 31st, 2009

this worked out to be a bit that could’ve worked well as a theme to any of Stephen J. Cannell’s shows – I’m in unabashed admiration of the breadth of his work and a fan of The Rockford Files, 21 Jump Street, The A Team and – mos def – The Greatest American Hero.

I write for soundtrack, but this started as a song (with delusions of Steely Dan). I do like the Production (guitar sounds, etc.), but it never made it past these bits. ah, well -

Sucks

"Recall"

This is another wuss-rock / pop tune, but I like it well enough. I’ll have to find more accurate time lines for this stuff – “Recall” was written and recorded after “Want it, Two” – still think between ’04 and ’06.

Process has been the same since my first cassette 4-track: commit some riffs to tape, sleep on it, keep at it, and the rest – over time – materializes. Problem, again, is that from there you should re-record everything once it’s whole in your mind. With a DAW, especially, it’s simpler not to. The speed of this is off – the whole thing should be a bit faster. Some day I’ll get to re-recording it (in the unfortunate event I continue digging through old stuff rather than create the new).

"Want it, Two"

I wrote and recorded this in bits during ’05-06, then worked at making the piecemeal recording sound better. Would’ve been better to re-record it once I knew what the song was, but such is the way of these things. Haven’t touched it in a couple of years – wanted to post it.

Within my family, I was famous for saying “you can’t have both;” this song’s about wanting things both ways.
